Protective Agency

Protective Agency

Protective agents’ responsibilities are assigned specific areas of authority by their clients who desire to have their interest governed locally, in real time.

As ServicePro Maritime, we undertake specific responsibilities and actions that have been either implied or expressed specifically by our principals as their Protective Agent. We may serve as an advisor to our principals or act directly on our principal’s behalf in directing various elements of the port call, including the movements of the vessel and instructions to the Master.

On behalf of principles, we monitor the performance of the assigned agent and the port call performance. By appointing us as a protective agent, we will:

  1. Check Performa D/A submitted by the agent for compliance with agreed rates.
  2. Attend Vessel on behalf of principal
  3. Receive owners’ funds and payment to agents.
  4. Reporting the vessel/cargo status, as required.
  5. Report on updates on ETA/ETB/ETC and daily cargo operations and issuing SOF.
  6. Pre-check N.O.R. & S.O.F. for correctness, before master’s signature
  7. Attend to Owners matter as instructed and /or Other urgent matters required by Master
  8. Issue letters of protests when required.
  9. Sign on Bills of Lading.

Under the protective agency tasks, we also provide the usual scope of husbandry agency services at the request of principles.

To be noted we can be appointed as “Cargo Operations Protective agent” only. Many cargo owners wish to protect their goods by controlling the shipping function through nominating their own reputable and experienced agent in the Charter Party. This ensures their interests are protected. Service Pro Maritime are privileged to be appointed in such a capacity in order to monitor port call operations with the Owner’s interests in mind.
